About Normal Map Creator

Normal Map Creator is a free, browser-based tool from XO3D Labs. Use a free normal map generator to create normal maps from a photo, height map or bump map in your browser, then export displacement, ambient occlusion and specular maps with a live 3D preview. It is built for 3D artists, CGI generalists and technical artists, runs entirely in your browser with no signup or install, and is one of 70 free tools in the Labs suite.

What it does

Normal Map Creator is a browser-based normal map generator for CGI and real-time 3D work. It turns greyscale height maps, bump maps, diffuse photos and texture references into tangent-space normal maps, then exports displacement, ambient occlusion and specular support maps from the same source image.

How to use it

Upload a photo, height map or bump map, or choose a sample, then tune the strength, level, blur and filter. Preview the generated normal map on a cube, sphere, plane or cylinder, and use the invert controls to match your engine convention, including the common DirectX versus OpenGL green-channel difference.

Downloads and privacy

Images are processed locally in the browser. Downloads are free, so artists can export a normal map, bump-map conversion or supporting texture maps without signing up.
