Instructional Animations

Learn about instructional animations and its applications.

WHAT ARE INSTRUCTIONAL ANIMATIONS

Instructional animations are digital or animated visual representations designed to teach or explain specific concepts, procedures, or skills. These animations are highly effective educational tools that leverage the dynamic and visual nature of animation to enhance learning and comprehension. They can simplify complex information, demonstrate processes step-by-step, and visually represent abstract ideas, making them more accessible and easier to understand for diverse audiences.

Instructional animations are commonly used in educational settings, corporate training, online courses, and user manuals, providing an engaging way to deliver instructional content across various fields and disciplines.

WHO USES INSTRUCTIONAL ANIMATIONS?

Schools, colleges, and universities use instructional animations to enhance classroom teaching and provide students with a visual understanding of complex academic concepts.

Companies integrate instructional animations in their training programs to train employees on new software, company policies, or skill development, making the learning process more interactive and memorable.

Hospitals and medical institutions use instructional animations to educate patients about medical procedures, disease prevention, and proper health practices, which helps in simplifying complex medical information.

Engineering and technical sectors use instructional animations to illustrate intricate processes, machinery operations, or assembly instructions, facilitating better comprehension and error reduction.

Online education providers extensively use instructional animations to create engaging and comprehensive courses that students can follow at their own pace.

These groups utilise instructional animations for public awareness campaigns, educating the public on various issues such as safety regulations, environmental concerns, and public health advisories.

BENEFITS OF INSTRUCTIONAL ANIMATIONS

Instructional animations help learners retain information longer by presenting content in a visually engaging manner.

Explainer videos break down complex ideas into manageable, visual components that are easier to understand.

Explainer animations appeal to visual learners and can include auditory elements for those who learn better through hearing.

Instructional animations can be accessed on various devices and platforms, providing flexible learning opportunities.

Learners can watch instructional animations at their own pace, pausing and replaying as needed for better comprehension.

By visually illustrating information, explainer animations can reduce the cognitive effort required to understand complex subjects.

Engaging and well-designed instructional animations can increase learners’ motivation to complete educational content.

The dynamic nature of animations keeps learners interested and more actively involved in the learning process.

WHERE ARE INSTRUCTIONAL ANIMATIONS USED?

SOCIAL MEDIA

Instructional animations on social media platforms are brief and engaging, designed to convey educational content quickly and effectively in a format that captures the scrolling viewer's attention.

WEBSITES

On websites, instructional animations are used to explain products, services, or processes clearly, enhancing user understanding and improving the overall user experience by making complex information more accessible.

DIGITAL MARKETING

In digital marketing, instructional animations serve as tools to explain the benefits and features of products in a more compelling way than traditional text-based content, helping to increase conversion rates by providing clear and engaging explanations.

TRADE SHOW & EVENTS

At trade shows and events, instructional animations are used on displays or interactive kiosks to attract and engage attendees, providing quick, clear explanations of products, services, or company operations without the need for constant staff interaction.

HOW ARE INSTRUCTIONAL ANIMATIONS CREATED?

Concept and Planning

The first step involves identifying the learning objectives and target audience. A detailed script is then written which outlines the narration and visual elements, ensuring that the content is educational and engaging.

STEP 01

3D Modelling and Texturing

Once the concept and script are set, the next step is to create the 3D models that will be used in the animation. This involves using 3D modelling software to build each character, prop, and environment. After modeling, texturing is applied, which involves adding colours, patterns, and materials to the models, giving them a more realistic appearance.

STEP 02

Animation

Animating in 3D allows for complex animations like rotating machinery, flowing liquids, or anatomical demonstrations to be more lifelike and understandable. Matching voice-overs to 3D animations requires precise timing to ensure that the movement of 3D models synchronizes with explanatory audio.

STEP 03

Rendering and Post-Production

The final step involves rendering, where the animated scenes are processed to produce the final output. This can be a time-consuming process as it involves computing light simulations, textures, and effects to achieve a high-quality finish. After rendering, compositing takes place where all elements are layered together, and final touches are added, such as sound effects, music, and voice-overs, resulting in the completed 3D animation ready for distribution.

Firstly, to begin a project, clients provide all the information required. For product visualisations, we require things such as drawings, design specifications, sketches, mood boards or other type of information you may have.

To clarify, we will check all of the content the clients have provided and ask for more details if necessary. In addition, a meeting, phone call or Teams call is always beneficial. To sum up, this helps avoid any misconception and allows us to shorten turnaround times for 3D animation services.

We start working as soon as we understand all of the details the task requires, and time frames have been agreed by both parties. Our 3D artists keep in constant contact with the clients throughout this process, with regular updates.

After that, we present animated grey previews to you for comments and review and finally make the adjustments.

The client accepts the drafts for final rendering.

Finally, we present the 3D animation, after we have completed post-production in high resolution with full quality lighting, reflections, glossiness, and materials.
