About Image Compressor

Image Compressor is a free, browser-based tool from XO3D Labs. Compress JPG, PNG and WebP in the browser with adjustable quality, live before and after preview and file-size savings. Nothing leaves your machine. It is built for 3D artists, CGI generalists and technical artists, runs entirely in your browser with no signup or install, and is one of 70 free tools in the Labs suite.

What it does

Image Compressor shrinks the file size of JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP images using an adjustable quality setting, so you can trade a little visual detail for a much smaller file. It runs entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas, so your images are never uploaded to a server and nothing leaves your device. It is completely free, with no account, login or watermark.

How to use it

Drag and drop one or many images onto the drop zone, or click to browse. Set the quality slider, and optionally change the output format (keep the original, or convert to JPG, WebP or PNG), cap the width or height, and let the export automatically remove EXIF metadata when the file is re-encoded. A live before-and-after compare slider lets you check quality against the original, and the panel shows the exact file size saved. Use Compress All to batch every queued image, then download individually or all at once.

Things to know

PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect when you export to PNG; for photographic images, JPG or WebP usually give far smaller files. Converting to WebP often beats JPG at the same quality. If shading looks different after a format change, that is the format, not lost pixels. Resizing down before compressing reduces file size further. The compare view decodes the actual compressed file, so the artefacts you see are the real ones.
