How Imagenova Used VFX To Help Sony Launch The WF-C710 Wireless Earphones
Sony needed to communicate the premium value of the WF-C710 wireless earphones — from water resistance and material quality to colourway consistency — in a way that felt unmistakably “Sony” across launch channels, without relying on complex live-action macro shoots.
We translated those features into a high-clarity visual narrative using photoreal CGI, macro-driven product animation, and tightly controlled studio lighting rigs — showcasing water interaction, surface detail, and finish accuracy with repeatable precision, so the same hero visuals could scale across web, social, and retailer listings.

Project Brief.
THE CHALLENGE
Highlighting Key Features.
The brief was to produce two short, animated segments designed to integrate into a full-length commercial shot by ImageNova for Sony’s latest wireless earphones. In addition, we were tasked with creating imagery that highlights key features of the earphones, as well as compositing rendered colour variations into ImageNova’s product photography.
THE SOLUTION
Cutting-edge Visuals.
In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, 3D has become an increasingly powerful and convenient tool for content creation. By incorporating 3D elements into the final output, Image Nova is providing Sony with a cutting-edge, high-quality marketing solution that aligns with the innovation and prestige of their brand.
THE RESULT
High-quality Marketing.
XO3D’s understanding of Sony’s visual identity and attention to detail meant we were well positioned to produce content that integrated with the wider commercial. This allowed Sony to create:
- A pre-launch video that builds anticipation and teases key features to generate excitement before the official reveal.
- Product detail page modules that clearly showcase features, benefits, and specifications to help customers understand the product online.
- In-store / retail display screens that capture attention and communicate key selling points to shoppers at the point of purchase.
- Retailer / marketplace listings that provide optimized product information and visuals to drive conversions across e-commerce platforms.

WHY CGI?
Director's Commentary
CGI gave us the flexibility to showcase features that would be difficult to capture with traditional videography—such as the simulated formation of water droplets. It allowed us to isolate key product details and present multiple colour variants with precision and consistency, ensuring a visually compelling representation of the earphones.

The Process.
STORYBOARDING & NARRATIVE
Turning complex infrastructure into a clear, investor-ready story
Before animation began, we mapped the full narrative—key messages, camera moments, and the order of information—so the film stayed focused and easy to follow.
Storyboards and a simple animatic aligned stakeholders early, reduced revisions later, and ensured every shot earned its place by explaining function, scale, and value with clarity.
CAD CLEAN-UP & NAMING
From raw engineering data to a clean, animation-ready asset.
We ingested Petalite’s CAD and rebuilt it for production—repairing topology, resolving overlaps, setting real-world scale, and establishing a clear naming and grouping system.
That structure kept the project stable as designs evolved and ensured every component stayed consistent across stills, turntables, and animation.
MATERIALS & LOOKDEV
Physically accurate surfaces that read as premium engineering.
We created a PBR material library that matched intended finishes—metals, plastics, coatings, fasteners, screens—so the product looked credible in close-up and at distance.
Lookdev was refined shot-by-shot to balance realism with clarity, ensuring the internal mechanics felt as tangible as the exterior casing.
LIGHTING RIGS
One lighting system, two worlds: pristine product and real-world context.
We built flexible lighting rigs for both studio-style hero renders and lifestyle environments.
Studio lighting delivered clean form and material separation, while lifestyle setups added believable reflections and atmosphere—without sacrificing legibility of key engineering details.
CABLE MOTION R&D
Realistic cable behaviour that sells the system in seconds.
Cable movement is where EV infrastructure visuals often fall apart—so we treated it as R&D, not an afterthought.
We developed a dedicated motion approach for natural sag, bend radius, weight, and contact, giving each shot a believable “installed” feel and making the product’s interaction points instantly understandable.
DELIVERY FORMATS
Built for launch day and beyond—optimised for every channel.
Final assets were delivered in web-ready and campaign-ready formats, including platform-specific cut-downs for social.
We supplied clean exports for websites, decks, and paid media—so Petalite could launch on schedule and repurpose the visuals across marketing touchpoints without rework.
