The top 3 news platforms in the UK were quick to report on this exciting development and our images made it to their news pages.

Mirror UK headlines, “IKEA announces major change to make goods more ‘affordable’ at new UK high street store”

Inspired by life in London, they focused on home furnishing accessories and food options, IKEA Hammersmith will feature everything customers know and love about the Swedish retailer more accessible.

IKEA Hammersmith has been awarded a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ certification, a sustainability rating given to less than one percent of UK new non-domestic buildings.

Metro UK writes, the new IKEA West London store will be approximately a quarter of the size of the branches we’re all used to, with 4,000 products on display and 1,800 available to take home on the same day.

Not tiny, just comparatively small.

But don’t worry – even though the shop is small, there is going to be a ‘Swedish delicatessen’ store serving Ikea’s iconic meatballs, including a plant-based option. Customers can either dine in or order for takeaway, from as early as 8 in the morning, an hour earlier before the rest of the shop opens.

The Evening Standard UK tells us that this IKEA shop, the first of its kind in the UK, is located within the former Kings Mall shopping Centre in Hammersmith and will have an entry way on the nearby high street.

It is slated to open to the public on February 24.

Country retail manager at IKEA UK & Ireland Peter Jelkeby said: “For the first time, Londoner’s will be able to take the tube to an IKEA store, pop in, grab a yellow bag and buy all the home furnishing accessories that make a house a home. They will also be able to explore the whole range, for delivery to a convenient collection point or directly to their home.”

These new small-format inner city shops offer collection points for online shoppers and easy returns. This move comes as more of IKEA’s business shift online. Their digital sales grew by 73% last year and now account for around £1 in every four spent with the shop.
